Belize Central Prison and Orange Walk district dominate 54 new cases of COVID-19

By BBN Staff: The Belize Central Prison and the Orange Walk district dominated the 54 new cases of COVID-19 identified today. When compared to the  total of 176 samples processed, this gives a positivity rate of 30.7%.

Twenty eight of the new cases were in the Belize district, of which 11 were detected in the Belize Central Prison, managed by the Kolbe Foundation.

The detailed distribution of the new cases is as follows:

Corozal – 1 from Paraiso

Orange Walk – 14 (7 Orange Walk Town, 3 Trial Farm, 2 Chan Pine Ridge, 1 Guinea Grass, 1 San Estevan)

Belize – 28 (11 Kolbe, 9 City, 2 Ladyville, 1 Hattieville, 1 Sunset Park, 1 Burrell Boom, 2 from San Ignacio, 1 from Belmopan)

Cayo – 6 (3 Buena Vista, 1 San Ignacio, 1 Santa Elena, 1 Esperanza)

Stann Creek – 3 (1 Independence, 2 Bella Vista TOL)

Toledo – 2 (1 Punta Gorda, 1 Bladden)

There are 22 recoveries reported, leaving 1,773 or 41.9% of the 4,230 total identified cases as still active.
