Dangriga police officers attacked by knife-wielding man

By Aaron Humes: Two police officers based in Dangriga Town sustained injury while trying to defend themselves against a sudden and apparently unprovoked attack in the village of Hopkins on Sunday night.

Police inform that the officers, identified as Constables Martinez and Pascascio, were finished checking a report in the village about 7:30 p.m. and were about to leave when they were approached by a man later identified as Ashton Nunez who was wielding a knife.

Believing that Nunez intended on relieving the officers of their weapons, they moved to stop him and a struggle ensued. Constable Martinez was cut under an eye as he struggled with the man who was trying to stab him and Constable Pascasio was injured to one hand. Meanwhile, Nunez was shot at several times and hit twice in the shoulder.

All three men were taken to Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga and treated. The officers were released, while Nunez remains under guard.
