By BBN Staff: In a press briefing held this afternoon, the Director of Health Services (DHS) reported that there was one COVID-19 death that occurred today. The victim is confirmed to be a female in her 60’s from Orange Walk. She died while receiving treatment in the COVID-19 unit at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).
With today’s death, the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is now 71 and the case fatality rate remains at 1.68%. A total of 48 males and 23 females have now died of the novel coronavirus.
The DHS also reported that one patient was “successfully extubated today and has been counter-referred to the Southern Regional Hospital”. However, 3 patients are currently connected to a ventilator.
According to the DHS, the Ministry continues to highlight the issue of intubated patients as these are usually the more critical ones in the unit. The COVID-19 unit has a total of 12 confirmed cases.
