By BBN Staff: The Public Service Union (PSU) sent out a special “thank you” today to public servants across the country for their service to Belize, particularly in the recent emergency situations.
The PSU notes that public servants were already making the sacrifice for Belize during the COVID-19 pandemic, working under less than ideal working conditions when the country got hit with unprecedented flooding due to Tropical Storm Eta.
“Despite the unsafe, and sanitary and poorly equipped environments Public Officers are often compelled to work in, and despite the fact that some of our very own have been affected by the existing COVID-19 pandemic and present exacerbating flood, Public Officers continue to display a bold spirit, of humanitarianism, hope, and willingness to continue to serve and protect the Belizean public,” the PSU said.
The union expressed its thanks to those who conducted emergency management duties, social workers, traffic officers, Ministry of Works personnel, police offices, Belize Defense Force soldiers, members of the Belize Coast Guard, Shelter Wardens, and all others who rose to the occasion when the severe floodwaters came and affected thousands of Belizeans.
The Union also called upon the Ministry of Public Service to give public officers the respect and fair treatment they deserve, particularly in the areas of job security, upward mobility, training, and fair treatment.
