COVID-19 cases in the US over 10 million, deaths nearing 250,000- President-elect Joe Biden plans to take swift action

By BBN Staff: The United States, the hardest-hit country in the world by the COVID-19 pandemic, has recorded over 10.4 million confirmed cases and the most deaths connected to the virus, making it a top priority for President-Elect Joe Biden.

Worldometer reports that total infections in the US are at 10,448,712 as of noon today, November 10; while the number of deaths stood at 244,811. The US has seen a total of 26,686 new cases and 362 new deaths.

The US currently has over 3.64 million active cases, representing around 25 percent of the global 13.9 million active cases. Notably, more than 6.5 million Americans have recovered from the virus.

According to the Washington Post, Biden is currently assembling a coronavirus taskforce, and is also planning to have the US rejoin the World Health Organization (WHO), reversing a decision taken by outgoing President Donald Trump.

The taskforce, which should be up and running by next week, will be co-chaired by former surgeon general Vivek H. Murthy and David Kessler, a former Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner.
