Faber unaware of Belize P.E.A.C.E. Movement governance pledge drive; BPM says senior officials knew

Posted: Tuesday, November 10, 2020. 6:28 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: United Democratic Party leader Patrick Faber told us no one at the party secretariat made him aware that the Belize P.E.A.C.E. Movement (BPM) was seeking to have candidates sign their 20 point Best Governance P.E.A.C.E. Pledge.

Faber said he would reserve comment until he had seen the documents in question.

The BPM provided Breaking Belize News (BBN) with evidence of communication they had with senior administrative officials from the political parties, including the UDP.  According to the BPM, however, it did not receive any positive feedback from any of the major political parties.

To date only one member of the Belize Progressive Party has signed the governance proposals in the P.E.A.C.E. pledge. The Belize People’s Front’s efforts to sign as a party was turned down as the Belize P.E.A.C.E. Movement says that political parties are not registered as legal entities in Belize and signing the pledge is an individual commitment.
