By Aaron Humes: The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) offered its congratulations to all involved in another successful general election.
The PUP’s victory, says the Chamber, is a clear mandate for the new government “to tackle corruption and address productive sector needs and tourism recovery as a vital part of reviving Belize’s economy.” It promises to work with the new Prime Minister to encourage business confidence and address the urgency of restoring national growth.
For the now Opposition United Democratic Party, the Chamber commends the “graceful acceptance” of defeat by leader Patrick Faber and encourages them to take up their role as a vibrant Opposition, fulfilling their democratic duties with diligence.
The third parties, the Belize People’s Front (BPF) and the Belize Progressive Party (BPP), all fought a very good fight. Their time may not yet have come, but perseverance is part of ensuring change, the Chamber counsels.
And thanks are due to the public service and the voters for their outsize roles in Wednesday’s exercise.
The Chamber and Belize Business Bureau will select one Senator to serve in the upper chamber, pending any changes to its composition.
