By Aaron Humes: BBN has been made to understand that now former Minister of Government and Belmopan area representative John Saldivar, among others, are hospitalized with symptoms of COVID-19.

Saldivar served several terms, first in Cayo South following a by-election and then in Belmopan after it was redistricted.

Observers say Saldivar was unavailable for interviews on Election Day Wednesday and generally appeared unwell. Several persons in his sphere of influence are also in treatment for Covid-19.

Saldivar lost heavily to Oscar Mira in the Belmopan race to complete a stunning fall from grace which began in February.

After winning the race to become the leader of the United Democratic Party over Patrick Faber, he was exposed in a Utah courtroom during a fraud trial as having taken sums from defendant Lev Dermen for financing political campaigns here.

He denied any criminal wrongdoing.

Nonetheless, he became the subject of an ongoing investigation by police here, and lost his portfolio as Minister and later, a second leadership convention to Faber.

Breaking Belize News takes the opportunity to wish John Saldivar and his colleagues a speedy recovery.
