Posted: Friday, November 13, 2020. 1:58 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring tropical depression 31 in the Caribbean.

Tropical depression 31 is forecast to strengthen to a hurricane as it approaches the coast of Central America. This system will be coming closer to Central America, where Hurricane Eta brought devastation and deaths.

As of this morning, the system was located about 310 miles south-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph moving west-southwest at 7 mph.

This system could become the 30th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season and would be named Iota.

All interests in Central America from Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and the Yucatan Peninsula should be closely monitoring the progress of this system.
