ComPol Chester Williams issues warning on reckless behaviour after deadliest COVID-19 day in Belize

Posted: Saturday, November 14, 2020. 9:24 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, has issued a stern warning to Belizeans after Friday the 13th became the deadliest day ever for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. According to the Director of Health Services, Dr. Marvin Manzanero, a total of 10 COVID-19 related deaths occurred across four districts on Friday.

In his statement, ComPol Williams expressed “great concern that many of our people are behaving recklessly and acting as if the Quarantine Regulation is no longer in force. The Police are being called constantly to disrupt private parties being held for various reasons.”

The ComPol reminded Belizeans that the Quarantine Regulation is still in place and all are expected to abide by it. The regulations were put in place to try and reduce the spread of the virus in Belize, says ComPol Williams.

To date, Belize has recorded a total of 4,715 positive cases of COVID-19, of which 2,091 are still active. 2,539 cases have recovered but 60 males and 25 females (total 85) have died from COVID-19 related complications.

“This virus do not have to be killing us, if only we would protect ourselves by adhering to the Regulation we would all be in a better place,” warned the ComPol. He continued saying “Let us all take responsibility to stop the spread of this virus by wearing our face mask, practice social distancing, sanitize our hands, do not host or attend private parties with people from outside your household and treat everyone as if they are COVID positive”.
