By BBN Staff: According to the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane Iota is on a steady course to make landfall in Nicaragua early this week.

The NHC’s data on Iota says that as of 7:00 a.m. today, Sunday, November 15, Iota was located North-Northeast of Panama. The storm is moving West-Northwest at 6 miles per hour with sustained winds of 85 miles per hour. It is forecast to strengthen and make landfall in Nicaragua on Tuesday. Several areas on the eastern coast of Honduras have also received hurricane warnings.

The NHC’s forecast also says that southern Belize could be feeling some effects of whatever is left of Iota on Thursday.

Iota is the 30th named storm of 2020, making this year the most active hurricane season on record. The storm gets its name from the ninth letter in the Greek alphabet.
