By Aaron Humes: Former Belmopan area representative John Saldivar and his wife are confirmed to have both tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and were hospitalized last week. Both are now at home recovering.
Several close associates are believed to have been infected as well.
The United Democratic Party leader, Patrick Faber, told reporters that as of Friday he had not been in touch with one-time rival Saldivar but would keep trying. The UDP however, confirmed Saldivar’s positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
The three-term representative (and previously for Cayo South after a by-election) was little in evidence on Election Day Wednesday and slumped to a historic defeat to the PUP’s Oscar Mira.
Mira sent his best wishes from Charter House in Belize City, where he was accepting a post as Minister of State for National Security and Border Defence under Florencio Marin, Jr.
Breaking Belize News (BBN) continues continue to wish Saldivar a full and speedy recovery.
