Global COVID-19 infections over 55 million heading into first year of the pandemic

By BBN Staff: The COVID-19  global pandemic is about to conclude its first year and is showing no signs of slowing down, with over 55 million infections worldwide.

As of noon today, Monday, November 16, 2020, global COVID-19 infections stood at 55,178,450.

There are over 15.51 million active cases, with 99,235 (1 percent of the total) being listed as serious/critical.

Over 1.32 million people have died from the virus, while over 38.33 million have managed to recover from it.

The United States has over 11.43 million confirmed infections, with over 4.22 million active cases and 252,165 deaths. It remains the hardest-hit country by the pandemic in the world.

India, which became the second-hardest hit country back in September, has over 8.87 million confirmed cases with 455,512 active cases and 130,552 deaths.

Brazil, which is the third hardest-hit country by the number of overall infections, over 5.86 million, is still second-hardest hit with respect to the numbers of deaths 165, 811.

Belize has over 4,861 confirmed infections with the number of deaths nearing 100.
