A message to the new PUP Government – Wheel and Come Again, Sah!

By Rudolph A. Neal: On Wednesday, November 11, history was made when the people of Belize delivered the People’s United Party to form government via a massive 26 – 5 mandate! Not only did that show of might spoke volumes about the people’s discontent with the United Democratic Party (UDP), but it clearly showed that the people bought into what the PUP was selling: a transparent government for all the people where in their agenda stated that “everybody fi win”.

As public sentiments were gauged, by and large the people were happy with their choice. They were contented that the PUP would deliver them and chart a new way of governance, distancing themselves from the ways of the past where corruption spewed thick and wild and the people were generally left out. The people believed that they could chart a new way forward for good governance, transparency and the for the betterment of the people.

But a little over one week into it, the country is voicing their discontent with the PUP! They are angry! Word broke out that a lot unpopular familiar names and faces that churns our stomach to wrath and upset us has been named and appointed as CEOs in various ministries! As the names were called and the familiar faces rise once more from the dark abyss that the society had placed them in, the country cried foul. Wi bex! Wi angry! No can do! No man! No sah! We can’t do it. You must could do betta than that!!

More than being upset, we are distraught. For Christ’s sake, look at that massive mandate that the people delivered you on. The young and millennials came out to make their voices heard and cast bid for a better and brighter future. Clearly, with your choices of CEOs, the future doesn’t look as bright as you had promised. These people don’t sit well with us and we need it fixed, immediately.

What happened to all the young and talented individuals in our country? Aren’t they capable and qualified to hold such offices. Why can’t we appoint credible people based on merit as opposed to old party loyalist? You can’t say with one mouth that you want to make a change and chart a better future for the country but do so with old broken links of the past.

Be it known that this bunch that propelled you to Belmopan da nuh di cunu munu bunch! We will be watch dogs, and we will hold this government accountable. We are tired of the ails and corruption that once wreaked havoc on our young nation. You have the opportunity to do better, so do better. Because we are watching; and if you think we will sit idly by and let anything slide, remember the words of the old song by Mel & Tim: “the same folks, that put you where you are today, tomorrow, they just might take it away!”

Stay focus, because we will stay woke!

God Bless Belize!
