By BBN Staff: Galen University Belize has launched a Certificate in Educational Leadership program for secondary school educators.
The program was developed by Mount St. Vincent University in Canada, the program prepares ethical and critically reflective secondary school leaders who will enhance educational practice to benefit students and the wider community.
The program is intended for educational leaders currently working in the secondary education sector throughout Belize. The program is intended for school leaders – H.S. Principals, vice principals, department heads, and aspiring secondary school leaders.
Upon completion, school leaders will meet licensing criteria as School Leaders.
The program consists of five courses developed for the Ministry of Education by Mount St. Vincent University, Canada.
The five courses comprise 20 modules, and the modules include a total of 80 topics, with an average of 4 topics per module.
Each course has a practicum component and will require two site-visits to each participant at the school site where he or she is leading or will be leading at some future time.
Each site visit will be done by an experienced qualified coach and will average about 6 hours per visit by the school site’s coach.
Therefore, each participant will be visited 10 times by his or her coach for a total time of about 60 contact hours at the school site where the participant is working.
The program will be delivered online using Galen’s Moodle platform and Blackboard Collaborate video conferencing software.
Each class will be delivered twice per week between 7:00-9:00 pm by a qualified course instructor.
Students will also be assigned “coaches” who will mentor their development and conduct site visits at their schools to mentor the application of course material.
The program will begin in January 2021 and will be completed over three semesters (2021-2, 2020-3, and 2021-1) of 14 weeks in length.
Each course will be offered over 7 weeks, with two courses in 2020- 2 and 2020-3, and one in 2021-1.
The entire program will cost $4500, a semester registration fee of $300 per semester, and a graduation fee of $300.
Registration fees are payable at registration time, and the participant makes arrangements with the programs Student Financial Officer, Lisa O’Brien, for tuition payment.
Participants in the program have access to Galen’s student-friendly payment plans and student loan programs.

The application fee can be paid online to the following account ABL 100 166 491, and a copy of the deposit slip should be included in the emailed application package.
Transcripts can be sent directly from the Registrar’s Office from institutions where the degrees were awarded to email@example.com.
Given the short timeframe and the ongoing pandemic, participants may submit certified copies of their diplomas from their official files at the schools where they are employed.
Upon receipt of these, they will be granted conditional acceptance.
