Tropical Depression Iota continues to produce heavy rains over parts of Central America

Posted: Wednesday, November 18, 2020. 8:40 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported this morning that Iota has weakened to a Tropical Depression and more weakening is forecasted.

However, Iota continues to produce heavy rainfall over parts of Central America. On the forecast track, the center of Iota will move across El Salvador before the system dissipates later today.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph (55 km/h)  with higher gusts.

Additional weakening is forecast, and Iota is expected to degenerate into a post-tropical remnant low-pressure system later today.

The threat of flash flooding and mudslides continue.

A flood warning is in effect for Belize, Cayo, Stann Creek, and Toledo Districts.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant as the rising floodwaters move downstream toward the coast.
