By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health and Wellness reports that there are 2 more COVID-19 deaths in the jewel. The first is a male in his 80’s from Santa Cruz Village in the Orange Walk district. According to the Director of Health Services, the individual was feeling ill at home, had cough and shortness of breath and died at home. The second is a female in her 70’s from Duck Run in the Cayo district.

With these 2 deaths, Belize now records 102 deaths and has a case fatality rate of 2.03%. 73 males and 29 females have died of COVID-19 related symptoms.

In the COVID-19 update, the Ministry notes that since the majority of deaths are in the elderly population, “it is important that we as a family and as a community take all necessary measures and precautions in minimizing their risk of infection. Avoid all unnecessary visits and exposures for the older populations. If you have an elderly family member who has a chronic illness, do ensure that they are taking their medications as prescribed, eating healthy and hydrating well.”
