Posted: Saturday, November 21, 2020. 4:12 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Protests continue in Guatemala today. The Congress building was reportedly set on fire.

Local reports indicate that the protesters threw objects at the Congress and lit it on fire.

Law enforcement authorities threw tear gas at protestors.

Guatemalans are protesting the actions of President Alejandro Giammattei whose government approved a new budget of over $13 billion, the largest approved budget in the country’s history, presented for 2021.

The new budget reportedly lowered funds for education, health and human rights while approving investments in infrastructure and big businesses supporting the government.

Included in the budget cuts is the attention given to COVID-19 patients
