GoFundMe launched to raise flood relief funds

By Aaron Humes: Belizeans in the United States have started a GoFundMe account to raise funds for relief from Hurricane Eta and Iota-related floods.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has agreed to match every dollar up to US$ 50,000 for Central America’s ‘We Are with You’ Campaign.

Eta struck Nicaragua and Honduras overnight on November 2 but due to its size, splashed Belize with an extraordinary amount of rainfall over a period of five days, causing flooding in Central and southern Belize.

Iota followed much the same path approximately two weeks later.

Belize experienced extensive damage to its road and transportation infrastructure, and more than 15 percent of Belize’s population has already been affected by the flooding so far. The areas most hard hit are the most productive agricultural areas of Belize.
