By BBN Staff: The civil suit between Police Corporal Eldon Arzu and Commissioner of Police Chester Williams will be heard in court after Justice Sonya Young dismissed an application by Willams’ attorney to have the case struck down.
Arzu had filed the suit against Williams, saying that his decision to extend the deadline for nominations for the Police Association elections, resulted in him losing the election. Williams’ legal team had submitted that Arzu’s reason for filing the civil suit was not properly explained. The court struck down the application and the parties will return to court on December 15.
Arzy held the post of Police Association President for 14 years (seven consecutive two-year terms), and said that he would have won again if Williams had not pushed back the date. Earlier this year Williams explained that the date was pushed back due to the pandemic.
In June, over 1,500 police officers voted and Sergeant Jane Usher became the new president.
