UNICEF donates over 200 backpacks to children in Western Belize

Posted: Tuesday, November 24, 2020. 1:38 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, UNICEF handed over 200 school bags to the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council through the Child Advisory Board Secretariat.

The Council says that the “Children for Children Back to School Drive” which is now scheduled for rollout is intended to assist two hundred (200), low-income families, in each of the nine (9) municipalities that are experiencing added financial constraints because of the COVID (coronavirus disease) 19 situation in Belize.

This initiative celebrating Children’s Day is in line with both Sustainable Child-Friendly Municipalities of Belize Initiative (SCFM) and UNICEF’s Strategic Plan, in which it works towards ensuring that every child receives the basic services of health care, education, and shelter, thus ensuring that no child is left behind.

The council noted that the distribution of the bags will be continued throughout this week.

There was also an additional 40 school bags that were distributed in Duck Run 1 following the flooding caused by Hurricane Eta.
