Oceana Belize call for developers to abandon ocean dumping proposal

Posted: Friday, November 27, 2020. 11:23 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Oceana Belize issued a statement today saying that it objects to dumping dredge soils in the Caribbean Sea.

“Oceana maintains that no adequate rationale has been provided that justifies that ocean dumping should ever be considered for Belize.  While developers can be counted on to make decisions based on their “bottom lines”, responsible management mandates that every effort be made to prevent adverse effects on navigation, scientific study, fishing as well as the economic, recreational, and aesthetic values of our world-renowned resources,” Oceana noted.

The organization recommends that the Ministry of Environment require the developers to abandon the ocean dumping proposal.
