92 year old Daniel Gongora knocked down by former Mayor

By BBN Staff: Ninety-two year old Daniel Gongora was knocked down around 11:15 am on Monday near his home in Unitedville, Cayo.

John Francis August, 42, former Mayor of San Ignacio and Santa Elena, was the driver of the pickup that knocked down Gongora. August reported that while traveling from San Ignacio to Belmopan, he approached a hill, and while coming down the hill near Yi Long store in Unitedville, he saw an elderly man in a distance crossing the George Price Highway.

August claimed that he applied brakes to his vehicle and tried swerving left to avoid hitting the man. However, he still ended up hitting him with the right front side of the vehicle.

Daniel Gongora was injured to his left forearm and was transported to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan for treatment.
