Ambergris Caye one of North America’s greatest fisheries 

By Aaron Humes: Among its many accolades, Ambergris Caye has been named among the 17 greatest fisheries in North America by FishingBooker, the world’s largest platform for connecting anglers and fishing guides, with over 29,000 fishing trips available in more than 1,850 cities worldwide.

The spots in the list were picked based on the size and variety of popular fish and the skill and history of local fishing communities, with bonus points for sustainability.

Ambergris is home to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and sits not too far from the Belize Barrier Reef system, widely recognized and protected.

So why is Ambergris Caye one of the best fisheries in North America?

The writers say Ambergris Caye is a pilgrimage site for bonefish fishers. The island is surrounded by sandy flats and turtle grass beds that are home to some real monsters. It’s not just Bones, either. Big numbers of Permit and Tarpon make this a true fly-fishing paradise. It’s the perfect place for a Grand Slam.
