By BBN Staff: As is protocol for new Government administrations, the Prime Minister John Briceno requested on Thursday, November 12 that political appointees vacate their position.
When new administrations take over, political appointees usually abandon their positions before being asked to do so by the new Government.
However, sources have confirmed to BBN that some political associates did not abandon their posts because they signed contracts with the outgoing administration just before the general election.
Many have questioned the reasons why certain well-known political associates remain in their posts but today, Minister of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation Andre Perez explained what is happening in Government.
“ Our country has been plundered….we have been raped…. Really and truly for the past 10 days, we have been working hard.. but it is so bad that it is impossible to do so…That is because we still have many of those cronies embedded in government. It is not like just chopping them off, they have armed themselves with many contracts, many contracts that you will find repulsive. The past government left their families and cronies with many contracts. It is like a virus on top of us that we cannot chop. If we go there and tell them get out of their political cronies, they have a contract that they will throw at us and we cannot just fire them because we and the people will have to pay for ‘wrongful termination’.
Perez said that the past administration had no regard for the people. He said that if some of these political appointees would be fired, the government would have to compensate $1.2 million.
Perez said that the new Government is struggling to get into transition and get to work since the political cronies are deeply rooted in the Government ministries and departments.
Perez promised that qualified people will be taking over these positions and he will ensure that by submitting those contracts to the Attorney General for revision and advice.
