National Met Service: Systems do form outside of Hurricane season

By BBN Staff: Today marks the closing of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season.

The record-breaking season saw 30 named storms. Of which, 13 of those named storms becoming hurricanes and 6 becoming major hurricanes, reaching Category 3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

The National Meteorological Service of Belize says that while today marks the closing of the season, history shows that systems do form outside of the season.

The National Meteorological Service encourages everyone to do a review of their 2020 hurricane plan, to see where their weaknesses and short-falls were, so that they can be better prepared if the need arises in 2021.

The Met Service says that it will continue to do its utmost best to disseminate reliable information in a timely and user-friendly manner to the Belizean public in the case of any weather-related emergency.
