By BBN Staff: Belize is closing out the month of November with the worst weekend for COVID-19 deaths on record.

Some 16 people died from complications related to the virus between Friday, November 27 and Sunday, November 29.

There were 10 deaths reported on Friday, three reported on Saturday and another three reported on Sunday.

Previously, the record for most deaths in a weekend was 14, which was observed between November 20-22.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness, in an attempt to curb further infections and deaths has started rolling out interventions, such as scaling up testing, restricting the number of people that can gather in a given place, instituting a curfew, and requiring that businesses such as gyms remain closed.
