Teenage motorcyclists survive frightening collision in Santa Elena; taxi driver fled the scene

By Aaron Humes: Police continue to look for the driver of a taxi who is believed to be at fault for a frightening crash caught on camera around 8:30 p.m. Sunday night in Santa Elena Town, Cayo District.

Teenage boys George Velasquez and Jason Linarez, both 18, were riding a motorcycle on the George Price Highway in the China Town area when they crashed head on into a taxi that was making a left turn onto a side street. Incredibly, the men on the cycle sustained minor injuries but the driver of the taxi fled the scene.

Police say Velasquez remains hospitalized in stable condition, while Linarez was treated and released from the San Ignacio Hospital. They are operating from the view that the taxi driver, going opposite to the motorbike, failed to clear oncoming traffic before making the turn across the highway and was thus at fault for the collision.
