By Aaron Humes: Two officers, a male and female, have been charged with extortion after an incident at the Mile 4, George Price Highway checkpoint last week.
A man who was without his drivers’ license came up to the checkpoint at Mile 4. Upon being unable to produce the document, the officers, a WPC Anthony and a PC Sambula, took 200 dollars from him to let him go.
Immediately after the incident, the victim called Commissioner of Police Chester Williams himself, who forwarded the matter to Professional Standards Branch. The officers were arrested, brought to court and are out on bail pending hearing. They have also been interdicted from the Department.
