By BBN Staff: Belize has representation on the newly-formed Caribbean Task Force for Peace, which is being spearheaded by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL).
HWPL, a non-governmental affiliate of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, held a landmark virtual inaugural meeting of the task force this week, to discuss its objectives and lay the groundwork for future meetings. The taskforce’s main objectives include: encouraging multinational communication on social issues, both local and regional; collecting best practices for peace education initiatives; and fostering a shared culture of peace.
Those attending the inaugural meeting included: LoDawn Jones, Acting Direct Coordinator for Women’s Department, (Belize), Melanius Alphonse, Development and Peace Consultant (Saint Lucia), Andrea Titus, Senior Youth Commissioner (Barbados), Jose Urbina, CEO of Minister of Youth, Sports, and E-Governance (Belize), Kevin Cadle, Director of Youth Development (Belize), Sophia Zacharia, Coordinator Ministry of Social Transformation and the Blue Economy, (Antigua and Barbuda), and Keisha Tomlinson, President of Jamaica’s Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers, and Associations (Jamaica).
“One resounding issue that all parties agreed would be a priority was the issue of peace education for youth,” the HWPL said.
Speaking at the meeting, Urbina called for collaborative efforts to launch a project geared towards creating generational change within five years.
The next meeting is set for December 21, 2020
