Dr. Carol Babb replaced as Chief Education Officer

Posted: Wednesday, December 2, 2020. 5:56 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology announced today that Dr. Carol Babb’s term as Chief Education Officer has come to an end.

The announcement came via a brief memo from Chief Executive Officer Diane Maheia, this afternoon. Maheia thanked Babb for her service to Belize and wished her well in her future endeavors. Meanwhile, no word has been given on a replacement for the post.

Babb replaced Christopher Aird as the Chief Education Officer Back in 2015, early in the third term Patrick Faber’s time as Minister of Education.

She showed unwavering support for the former Minister as the Ministry pushed several projects and policies, including the Digi Learn pilot project and the mandatory requirement for teachers to complete their associate’s degrees for their teaching licenses.

Babb also represented the Ministry in court battles with the Belize National Teacher’s Union when the Ministry sought to deduct the time spent during the 11-day strike back in 2016 from their salaries.
