By BBN Staff: Autism Belize, an organization geared towards building vibrant community of autism and other special needs families is offering an opportunity to gain insight into the lives of people living with autism spectrum disorder, through its virtual panel discussion tonight titled “Living with Autism.”
The panel discussion will feature testimonials and discussions with Sananna Nunez, a highly functional autistic young adult working in San Pedro, and Eric Mendez, a highly functional autistic student from St. John’s College Junior College. Byron Ross, Ph.D.speech Language pathologist and Instructional Associate Professor at the University of Houston will also be a part of the panel.
Christ Almeida, the founder of Autism Belize, explained that the panel is being held in commemoration of International Day for Persons With Disabilities, and form a part of the activities for Disabilities Week being celebrated today under the theme “Not all disabilities are visible.”
“It’s very important because we all worry about stigma, so we don’t talk about this (autism) as much. So I think it’s very brave of these young people to actually come on and invite Belize people into their lives to talk about some other challenges and their strengths, so that people can have a better appreciation of what their world is,” Almeida said.
The panel goes live on Autism Belize’s Facebook page at 6:00 p.m.
