Newly-renovated Placencia municipal airport to be inaugurated tomorrow

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation and the Belize Airport Authority has announced that the newly-renovated Placencia Municipal Airport will be inaugurated tomorrow, Friday, December 4, 2020.

Following the completion of the rehabilitation project, the airport now has a 2,775 foot by 40-foot runway that has been asphalted with hot mix. The runway also comes with 10-foot wide load-bearing shoulders on each side and is outfitted with thermoplastic markings and a modern lighting system that complies with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Other new features include proper drainage, additional security fencing, and a shore protection system to complement the runway.

Speaking on the completion of the project on December 1, Minister of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, Andre  Perez said, “As an upcoming tourism hub in the Jewel, we look forward to increasing the carrying capacity and increasing the traveler experience by providing a safe and modern airport for Placencia residents and Southern Belize, who frankly deserve this kind of infrastructure.”
