218 new cases of COVID-19 and 2 new deaths reported

Posted: Saturday, December 5, 2020. 5:14 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Health and Wellness reported a staggering 210 new cases of COVID-19 overnight, 41 percent of its 555 PCR and rapid tests given out.

This puts the total number of cases at 7,601 since the start of the pandemic in March.

With 27 new recoveries, the number of active cases stands at 3,677, with a further 1,242 under investigation.

Two more deaths have also been reported, bringing the total to 172.

Thirty-five persons remain hospitalized, with four in the intensive care unit (ICU).

A little more than a quarter of all persons tested are positive and nearly half have been reported as recovered. The death rate percentage is 2.26 percent.

Later we expect data on the breakdown of today’s cases but it is important to note that rapid tests may sometimes give false positives and in such cases it may be necessary to get a supplementary PCR test.

Continue to wash your hands, avoid crowds and close contact, wear masks and other protective face coverings in public and social distance.
