Belize observes World Soil Day

Posted: Saturday, December 5, 2020. 8:56 am CST.

By BBN Staff: On Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security & Enterprise hosted a virtual opening ceremony for World Soil Day.

World Soil Day is held annually on December 5. The day is commemorated to focus on the importance of healthy soil, advocating for sustainable management of soil resources. This year’s theme is “Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity.”

In addressing the increasing challenges of soil management, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of sustaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being to fight soil biodiversity loss by encouraging people around the world to engage in proactively improving soil health.

The event featured presentations by stakeholders in the agricultural sector and the launch of a video on the soil in Belize.
