Normal water service resumed in Cayo; Benqueños must wait a little longer

Posted: Tuesday, December 8, 2020. 11:44 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Further to our story about issues with water supply in San Ignacio/Santa Elena and Benque Viejo, Belize Water Services Limited issued an update on Monday evening.

BWS says supply to the Twin Towns resumes today, Tuesday, after it repaired electrical units at the river bank water intake gallery above the Hawkesworth Bridge.

It did not address long-term the consequences of flooding frequently knocking out supply as a result of affecting the said units.

Meanwhile in Benque, the water provider needs a few more days to restore a supply main over the river; clean out the spring source which was inundated by floodwaters and deal with any electrical issues.

BWS apologizes for any inconvenience caused and asks customers to keep in touch via 222-4757; toll-free line 0-800-225-5297 (CALL-BWS); WhatsApp at 613-2975 or 614-2975 (BWSL) and by email at [email protected] or [email protected]
