By BBN Staff: Last week, Police Corporal David Jimenez, 38, died outside the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) while awaiting medical attention, an event that Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says should not have happened.
“Now we’re not going to say that had he received the treatment or some treatment from KHMH he would have survived but the fact of the matter is that he died outside in the ambulance and that ought not to have occurred,” Williams said, noting that Jimenez was outside for three hours and refused treatment.
Williams said that he has since spoken to the Minister of Health and Wellness regarding the situation and that the KHMH will need to look into what happened that day because it has an obligation to treat those who come in for medical treatment. The commissioner also lamented the plight of police officers who endanger themselves on a daily basis to ensure the safety of the public.
“Police officers are frontline people. We’re out there everyday doing our job, we’re meeting sometimes hundreds of persons per day and we’re pretty much exposed to the virus and so it is the least you can do is to ensure whenever we’re infected and whenever we go to hospital to seek attention that we’re given the amount of attention we deserve,” Williams said.
