U.S. Embassy highlights Ashanti Garcia as Entrepreneur Spotlight for December

By BBN Staff: The United States Embassy in Belize is highlighting Ashanti Airbender Garcia has for the Entrepreneur spotlight for December. The embassy shared a brief biography of Ashanti.

Ashanti began professional ballet training at just 10 years old in San Ignacio. She would then continue practicing ballet in addition to modern dance and hip hop receiving both local and international training.

In her 20s, Ashanti moved back to Belize City and became a member of Nu Generation Dance Company and would go on to perform in various shows. She is now a member of Modern Dance Movement, directed by Jaylan Craig, training in ballet and Graham modern dance style.

Ashanti, during her growth as a dancer, also had the chance to take Yoga classes and became captivated by the practice due to how connected and in harmony she felt with her body, mind and soul.

 She went on to become a Certified Yoga Teacher in 2015 receiving her first certificate from Ma’Alabi in 2015.

To become more well-rounded in the practice, she took various workshops and continued to study under various yoga professionals.

The desire to share yoga with the Belizean community so that they too could benefit from the practice inspired her to found the Airbender Yoga Studio in 2013.

Ashanti encountered some difficulties at first and relocated three times before settling on a permanent location.

With the arrival of COVID-19, the Airbender Yoga Studio experienced some setbacks which prompted Ashanti to move online and launch a program called Split in the Middle.

Split in the Middle is a 3-month off-line program which teaches strength drills and preparatory poses to reach a specified end goal. She also teaches online classes for youth and adults in real-time to ensure proper technique through verbal corrections.

Ashanti looks forward to continuing to share her love of Yoga with the Belizean public promoting self-empowerment and healthy living.
