Eamon Courtenay on the lawsuit against PM Briceno: “would be a sad mistake”

Posted: Thursday, December 10, 2020. 9:09 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Prime Minister John Briceno and Love Fm both received letters from Former Prime Minister Dean Barrow, now, in his position as attorney of Director of the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) Karen Bevans.

That is because in an interview last week, Briceno spoke about the contracts Bevans signed with the former administration and said that the contract was a $250,000 one.

In the legal document, she requests an apology, a retraction, and compensation. She asked for a response within 2 weeks or she will sue the Prime Minister.

In an interview with the media on Wednesday, Senior Counsel and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eamon Courtenay said that suing the PM would be a sad mistake.

“I hope Miss Bevans won’t sue the Prime Minister. That would be a sad mistake. Think about it; 1.2 million dollars and you want to sue the Prime Minister. Let’s not get it twisted too early in the day,” Courtenay asserted.
