Office of Prime Minister: Flags to fly half-mast in honour of David Vega

By BBN Staff: The Office of the Prime Minister (PM) issued a statement today informing the public of the passing of Hon. David “Dido” Vega, the newly elected area representative for Corozal Bay. “Vega recently tested positive for COVID-19 and was intubated after becoming critical. He died while receiving treatment at a private facility.”

According to the release from the PM Office, Vega would have been officially sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives during the opening of the 13th Session of the National Assembly.

At the inaugural meeting today, Prime Minister Briceño ordered that flags across the country be flown half-mast until the burial of Vega.

The Prime Minister and the Government of Belize express deepest sympathies to the wife, children, extended family, and friends of Vega.

The statement from the PM Office also asserted that a state funeral will be held for Vega, details of which will follow.
