By BBN Staff: Belizeans are losing their lives to COVID-19 on an almost daily basis, despite this people continue to host parties that are in violation of the current health protocols in place for the prevention of the virus. Today, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams made a sincere appeal for illegal social gatherings to stop.
Williams explained that police have been breaking up illegal gatherings “every single day” and making arrests. He stressed that arrests are not the best way to deal with the virus and that people should refrain from hosting them because it is the right thing to do as opposed to out of the fear of an arrest.
“If you adhere to the protocols, your chances of contracting the virus reduces, and when this is all over you will get the chance to having many more parties; but if you risk having the parties now, your chances of contracting the virus increases and if you contract it you might die and that will be the end of your party life,” Williams said.
Williams reminded that the solution to the virus rests ultimately with each member of the public doing their part to prevent the spread and not with the health officials, government workers, or security forces. He also expressed his condolences to those mourning the loss of someone who died from COVID-19.
