By BBN Staff: A member of Belize’s medical community is pleading with Belizeans to follow the recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19 issued by health authorities, after seeing two of her colleagues die from the disease.
Dr. Shanna Pott made the sincere appeal today in front of the memorial set up for Doctors Kenneth and Kevin Guerra over the weekend, due to covid-19.
“Please take COVID-19 seriously. It’s deadly. It’s not a pretty death,” Pott said. “People suffer, they’re alone in these isolation wards.”
Pott also spoke to the ongoing issue of illegal gatherings, stressing that while many feel safe because they have parties with only their relatives, the reality is that one infected person in the room means that everyone is at risk.
“Christmas is here, I know, I know people want to celebrate, but please just try to avoid these things and maybe next year if we get this under control, if you guys do your part then hopefully next year we can come together for Christmas and everybody will be present then.”
