Doctors set up a memorial at the KHMH for colleagues who died from COVID-19

By BBN Staff: Members of the medical community in Belize have set up a memorial at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) today for Dr. Kenneth Guerra and Dr. Kevin Guerra, who both died from COVID-19 over the weekend.

Dr. Shanna Pott one of the organizers, explained that the mural set up outside the main entrance of the hospital is for mourners that didn’t get a chance to attend the funeral or otherwise get a chance to pay their respects, given that the men were buried shortly after they died.

“They were widely known, they fell in the line of duty. They were the first…and hopefully the` last that will die (on duty) from this disease,” Pott said.

She added that those wishing to light a candle, say a prayer, or some other form of tribute are invited to do so.

Dr. Kevin Guerra had been working with the ministry for five years and had been posted as the Independence Polyclinic, while Dr. Kenneth Guerra had been with the Ministry for three years and was at the San Ignacio Community Hospital. Kevin died on Saturday, while Kenneth died on Sunday. Both men were buried on Sunday.
