Police: Gang rivalry possible motive for Micah Baltazar murder

Posted: Tuesday, December 15, 2020. 4:17 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department suspects that Micah Baltazar, 19, was shot and killed last night due to an ongoing rivalry between Belize City street gangs.

Baltazar, who was a gas station pump attendant, was gunned down around 7:30 p.m. while walking on Neal Pen Road.

Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, Head of Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City, explained that Balthazar is a known affiliate of a criminal gang and had been charged last year for an incident in Mahogany Heights. Cowo said that information gathered thus far suggests that Baltazar had been walking through rival territory when he was shot.

Police have detained one person in connection with the incident and are seeking another.
