Will a national lockdown be instituted?

By BBN Staff:  Many Belizeans on social media are calling on the Government to institute a national lockdown in an attempt to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Every day, people are losing their loved ones to the virus.

At the funeral of Parliamentarian, Dido Vega, the media asked the Prime Minister about the way forward.

Briceno said that the key is in testing people so that they are aware if they are COVID-19 positive and can quarantine in time.

“We are also looking at encouraging sick people to stay home and the government, if necessary, will provide them with groceries to eat even if we have to come up with a small stipend despite the fact that there is not much financing that we have to have every effort to encourage people to stay home,” Briceno stated.

The PM says that technical people from the Ministry of Health and Wellness will meet today and doctors will make another set of recommendations on the way forward.

Regarding a national lockdown, PM said that everything is on the table.

“Everything is on the table. We have to make sure that we can flatten that curve as quickly as possible,” Briceno said.
