By Aaron Humes: Director of the Institute of Creative Arts (ICA) and former interim President of the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH), Gregory Vernon, is out after not having his contract renewed since September.

The NICH announcement called Vernon “a fixture in Belize’s arts and culture industry as a dancer and choreographer with the Belize Dance Company and as an employee of the Belize Arts Council, he was a forerunner of NICH.”

But as with several other key employees this year, NICH has had to make cuts in staff and programs due to COVID-19. These measures have so far included cutting back on non-essential expenditures and other expenses, as well as salary cuts since May.
