By BBN Staff: A memo from the Financial Secretary informed all Government Ministries and Departments of Government’s decision to not host or promote any social functions for Christmas.
The memo says that due to the severe financial constraints facing the Government of Belize, it will not promote or fund any Christmas activity or gifts for staff.
“ In view of the severe financial constraints facing the Government of Belize at this time and in view of the recommendations from the Ministry of Health to contain the spread of COVID-19, a decision has been taken to not promote or fund any Christmas activity or gifts for staff this year (including even small take out lunches,” it noted.
The Ministry of Finance says that this should in no way be interpreted as a reduction in appreciation or acknowledgment of the hard work and sacrifices of staff given over the past year but simply a response to the current hard financial and public health crisis, Belize is facing.
