“No closure for airport,” says Belize Tourism Board

Posted: Friday, December 18, 2020. 2:02 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: There will be no closure of the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA), according to an emergency release issued this week by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB).

The BTB said that it learned of false information circulating regarding the closure of the PGIA and the need for flights to and reservations to be canceled.

“The BTB hereby advises industry stakeholders and the general public that this rumor is absolutely false. The PGIA remains open to international travel and there is no plan in place to institute any such closure. In actuality, increased volumes of passengers and flights are expected over December and January,” the BTB said.

The BTB also called on the public to stop sharing false information as the fear and confusion it will create can negatively impact the ongoing efforts to rebuild the tourism industry.

Those with questions regarding the tourism industry are urged to contact the BTB via email at [email protected] or call 227-2420.
