Donation of equipment made to Belize Rugby Football Union

Posted: Sunday, December 20, 2020. 3:10 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: There has been precious little to report from the sports world in recent months, but in recent weeks the Belize Rugby Football Union (BRFU) has received and distributed equipment for three local clubs participating in the national club championship of rugby sevens.

USA Rugby referee Lee Powers donated four tackle pads for players to work on their tackling skills, while regional organization Rugby Americas North donated 25 rugby balls after previously donating 75.

BRFU President and sports founder in Belize Tony Gillings, in turn, distributed the equipment to team captains Ryan Vellos, Belize City Vikings Rugby Football Club (RFC); Raheem Cummings, Orange Walk Black Mambas RFC; and Dayton Warrior, Cayo Baymen RFC.

Gillings said he was looking forward to the return of competitive rugby in the New Year once restrictions on contact sports are lifted due to COVID-19.

The other competing teams in the BRFU are Belmopan Cavaliers RFC; Hopkins Panthers RFC; Belize Hummingbirds RFC; and San Pedro Sharks RFC.
