Four fishermen from Dangriga missing at sea

By BBN Staff: Breaking Belize News (BBN) has confirmed that the search is underway for 4 fishermen from Dangriga who have been reported missing at sea.

The missing men include the boat captain Omar ‘Wak’ Thompson, and he was accompanied by Brenton ‘Braka’ Brackett and Leon Joseph Diaz. The trio left Dangriga around midday on Friday 11th December 2020 en route to Long Caye to pick up another fisherman, Jeffrey Gomez.

The vessel the men were in when they left Dangriga is an 18th-foot dark blue skiff named ‘Life’. It is normal for the fishermen to stay out on the sea for about 3 days but they were last heard from on the morning of Saturday 12th December.

In the last few days, calls to the cell phones of the men are going straight to voicemail. As a result, family members launched a search for the men 3 days ago but so far the men have not been located.

A report of the missing men was filed with the authorities and the Belize Coast Guard joined the search on Saturday, 19th December.
